Another reason why you really should not be using the phone is the roaming charges you can get from the net. The problem with many phones such as the iPhone is that if someone clicks the net by mistake they are going to be getting a very big bill indeed.
Although you could get gadget insurance for breakages abroad it will not cover you from the mistakes you can make from all of the browsing that can be done. Another thing is that each time that you text it is likely to cost you a lot of money too.
Taking the phone with you is simply not worth all of the hassle which is why it is important not to take it. If you are going on holiday then make sure you look into cheap car hire insurance because at least then if something happens you are covered.
